Goodreads is bad

booka!

Imagine having a reading goal. If it helps you read more I guess it's fine but reading to hit a reading goal is like playing video games to hit 1000 hours on the video game. NO one should be tracking their playtime and using that as a metric of goodness.

When I used goodreads I was always thinking about ohhhh I gotta make me reading goal and think of a fancy review for this book I'm reading. Just read the book it was not a big deal to be reading like 50+ books a year 50 years ago so why make it a big deal now?

That being said if you are unlike me and it does not effect you then I guess that's fine. But why tell the world about what you are reading? To seem smart? B-but I'm just tracking what I'm reading, I hear you say. I say, why? So you don't forget? but if you have forgotten then maybe you should read the book again? Or maybe it was worth forgetting? Perhaps their is a lesson here that I can't distill into words because I don't read enough.

Me reading my favourite book

Also the website is absolute terrible and looks bad. Not that this website is good but at least it's readable (to me it is and that's all that matters). The UX is worse then the self checkout machine at my local coop and that's terrible! Also, to nitpick (I'm a mediocre mind) they have a copyright footer, on the sign up page it says 2023 and on the main page it says 2025? Not using a templated footer? CRIINNGE.

If you can find me on goodreads and send me a message I'll give you an hour of my time.
