Slopware

I've started to create slopware. It's software that only I use made using ai.

They are not throwaway scripts. If this was made about a year or 2 ago then these would be well received open source projects. They are full applications with many features.

But, because they are slopware they are effectively unmaintainable. I wonder how much modern software is effectively slopware now.

When I say unmaintainable I mean unmaintainable by a human. Maybe they are but not by me and I made the software and I don't expect someone else to maintain my slopware.

The question then arises: Is this a problem?

Yes

These projects will never become as good if I had made them by hand. Or spent time thinking about the design and used ai to code up some but not all of the parts.

More trouble then it's worth. The time it takes to write slopware is deceptively slow if you want all the features. It's probably more worth it to find an existing project that you like and configure that up.

No

AI will write all the code soon anyway so it does not matter.

If you understand what you are doing then it's not really slopware. A lot of code I write is using AI but I still understand it all, I make sure to.

It's not designed to last for a long time. Recently I've made an rss reader and it's slopware. Buut I made sure the data is all stored in 1 file in json. So when this rss reader breaks I can just quickly make a new slopware reader.

Definition

Slopware: Software that one creates with ai that they would have shared with other people if they had not created it with an ai. Unmaintainable by any human.
